Cardiologist Appointment

Brooklyn had an appointment with the Cardiologist today. They did an EKG and checked her blood pressure to make sure they can rule out a Coarc. Here's what she looked like during the EKG:
Kenyan sent this picture to Aunt Crystal and cousin Alli, and this is what they sent back:
Alli imitating B with bottle caps and cords. :)
"Don't be scared cousin B! I will do it with you!!"

We have the best cousins ever!!

Here's an update on B's status from the appointment: They measured her blood pressure on each arm and leg and all looked good. She'll continue to be on her medicine for the SVT until she's 1 as long as she continues to show no signs of it. We have another appointment in 3 months to check in again and see how things are looking and they'll probably do another echo at that appointment to check for the coarc again. And she weighed in at 18 lbs. 14 ounces. (Less than what I thought it was going to be-I thought she was at least 20 pounds already-phew!!)

May 18, 1992

19 years ago I was diagnosed with Type I diabetes. At the time, I didn't really understand how this would impact the rest of my life. I just knew that I had to give myself shots and test my blood sugar all the time.

I started to really understand why I was diagnosed with this on January 1, 2006. I got a call from my brother-in-law telling me that my 3 year old niece Makenzie had just been diagnosed with Type I diabetes.

3 years old??? I was 10 when this all happened to me, I couldn't imagine what it would be like for a 3 year old. I realized that I needed to set an example for Kenzie. She needed to see that this was something that could be handled and that she could still do all the things that she wanted to do. I went out to see her for her birthday a few weeks after she was diagnosed. We tested our blood sugar together and I showed her how my pump worked. We have a special bond now.

I was given a special blessing when I was diagnosed that my diabetes wouldn't affect someone wanting to marry me and that I would be able to be a mom. Blessings are fulfilled, not in our time, but the Lord's time. You have to be patient.

15 years after being diagnosed, I married the most wonderful man who doesn't have a problem with it. He's ok with getting up in the middle of the night if I ask him to get me a drink because my blood sugar dropped. And even though I feel like the cost of the supplies I have to continually purchase all the time has put a burden on us, he never sees it like that.

Three and a half years into our marriage, we now have a beautiful baby girl. I made sure I took really good care of my self during my pregnancy to try and prevent as many complications as I could. The nurse even told me, "Just goes to show you can still have big babies even when you do take really good care of yourself." (I'm pretty sure genetics had something to do with it too.)

I'll admit I've slacked off a little bit taking care of myself the last couple months. But as I've been playing with Brooklyn the last few days and knowing that my "anniversary" has been coming up, I am making a goal to get it back under control. I need to be here for my family for a long time. They need me, and I need them.

So here's to 19 years and many more to come!

3 Months Old!

She's 3 months old! You would never think by looking at her that she's only 3 months. She looks older just because she's so big. But don't let her fool you, she's still working on holding her head up, but she does smile a lot now and loves to talk to us. I could listen to her all day long! I love you Little B!!
There's so much of her, but I still can't get enough!!

Little B or Big B? Updates

Update 1: Brooklyn is sleeping through the night!

Update 2: She can't wear 6-9 month pants, they don't fit over her thighs.

First Mother's Day

My very first Mother's Day. Unfortunately, Kenyan had to work that day. But my Mother's Day gift came earlier in the week. Kenyan took a week of paternity leave last week. (Yes, he gets two weeks of paternity leave, very cool!) While he was home he was working out in the yard everyday, cutting out my flower beds for me. They're getting there, soon will come the process of picking out flowers and bushes. (I'm not so good with landscaping, we'll see how it turns out and if everything stays alive.)

Several months ago, one of my former colleagues, gave me their piano that had been sitting in their garage. It's an older piano, but a piano nonetheless and I was excited!! Kenyan was going to surprise me and have it tuned, but hard to do surprises when I work at home. So he got it tuned, and the "piano man" is coming back again today to tune it again. (It hadn't been tuned for awhile....but like I said, it was free!!)

After church on Sunday I headed over to my parents' house for dinner and Kenyan was going to come over after work. I was coming down their street and Kenyan's car is in front of the house!! That was a pleasant surprise! He gave me the sweetest Mother's Day card from him and Brooklyn. (Brooklyn is one smart baby, she may not be able to talk, but she can write really sweet notes to her mom!)

I've only been a mom for almost 3 months, but I love it. I love that I get to wake up and see Brooklyn's cute face every morning. I love that she smiles at me when I sing songs to her. I love that even though she is so little, she makes me want to be a better person everyday. I love that she has blessed our lives and that she is home and she is healthy. I love that she is finding her voice more and more everyday. And I love that she knows who I am.

And I have to say Happy Mother's Day to my mom for all she has done for me! I don't know how you did it with 5 of us! I love you!!

Blessing Day: Brooklyn Nicole Sant

4 Generations!

Love these 2!!

Check out those ankles!

Our little blessing
Kenyan blessed Brooklyn on Sunday. It was a beautiful blessing and he blessed her with the right name...I was a little nervous he might say Mazee instead. LOL  (He's been known to do that around that house when he's holding Brooklyn and Mazee's sitting right next to him. Ok, I've done it one or two times myself as well.) Thank you to all our family and friends that were able to come!
